Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns about how we collect and use your personal data. You also have the right to make a complaint to the appropriate privacy authority, such as your State Attorney General.
Why we collect and use personal data
We collect personal data to process your requests, keep in touch with you and serve you well. For example, we use it:
- to keep you updated on our work and the impact of your support;
- to tell you about events, prayer meetings and classes you can take part in as a supporter;
- to invite you to take part in our campaigns;
- to send you fundraising appeals;
- to support you as a volunteer;
- to process donations and other payments, send donation receipts, and verify financial transactions to protect you from fraud;
- to process a legacy or gift that you leave in your will;
- to verify, publish and follow up the testimonies and prayer requests you send us;
- to provide services, products or information you have asked for;
- to record how you would like us to contact you;
- to keep notes of conversations you have with our team, in case you want to return to them later;
- to tell you about changes to our policies that affect you;
- to comply with a law, legal process or regulatory requirement;
- to process an application to work or volunteer with us;
- to let you use interactive features of our website when you choose to;
- to provide, maintain and improve our website, monitor how it is used, and detect, prevent and fix technical problems;
- to send you notices about your subscription, such as confirmations and email instructions;
- for any other purpose we describe when you provide the information, or with your consent.
The information we collect
The personal data we collect depends on how you interact with us. From many of our supporters we collect:
- your name;
- your postal and email addresses;
- your telephone or WhatsApp number;
- your country;
- details of correspondence we have had with you;
- how you would like to hear from us, and when you told us this;
- details of any donations you have made to us;
- any fundraising appeals you have responded to;
- events you have taken part in or asked about.
In specific circumstances we may also collect:
- the testimony, photos, audio or video you choose to share with us, and the name of your church and pastor;
- details of your prayer request;
- payment details if you set up a recurring gift (these are handled by our payment provider, not stored by us);
- health information you give us if you take part in an event, to help keep you safe;
- areas of interest you tell us about if you volunteer with us.
Sensitive data
Some personal data needs extra care, including information about race or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious beliefs, health, genetics, biometrics, sex life or sexual orientation, and criminal convictions.
Because we are a Christian ministry, testimonies and prayer requests often include religious beliefs and sometimes health information. We only collect this kind of data when there is a specific reason, we explain that reason when we ask for it, and we ask for your consent to use it, including your consent before we publish a testimony. We always treat information about age sensitively.
How and when we collect information about you
Most often we collect information directly from you, for example when you fill in a form on our website or speak with one of our team. Whenever we ask for information we will explain why, and you will always have a choice about how we communicate with you.
Sometimes you may give your data to third parties who pass it to us with your permission, for example a fundraising platform or a partner church that helps you submit your testimony.
We do not buy lists of data for our marketing, and we do not share data with other charities for their marketing.
Cookies and technical data
Like most websites, our site uses cookies: small data files stored on your device that make the site easier to use and help us understand how people use it. We also use similar technologies such as tags and scripts.
When you browse our site we automatically collect:
- technical information, such as your device type, IP address, browser type and version, time zone setting, operating system and platform; and
- information about your visit, such as the pages you viewed, how long you stayed, how you moved around the site, and any download errors.
Most web browsers let you control cookies through their settings. To find out more about cookies, including how to see which cookies have been set and how to manage and delete them, visit https://www.allaboutcookies.org/.
Why we are allowed to use your information
We always consider why we are using your personal data. Often it is because you have given us your consent. We may also use your data where it furthers our legitimate aims as a ministry and is not likely to be too intrusive or to unduly affect your rights. In some cases we have a legal duty to process information, or we need to do so to carry out an agreement with you.
Communications from us
We make it easy for you to tell us whether you would like to hear more about our work, and how (post, email, text message, WhatsApp or phone). Every message we send explains how to stop receiving further messages, either altogether, on certain topics or by certain methods. If you tell us you do not want to hear from us, we will remove you from our list.
We only contact you by email, text message or direct social media message, or use health information you give us, with your consent.
We treat your consent as valid while you have an active relationship with us (for example while you give, volunteer, take part in our prayer meetings or classes, or tell us you have left us a gift in your will) and for 24 months afterwards. After that we will contact you to check that you still want to hear from us.
You can withdraw your consent at any time. If you wish to do so, or have any questions, please contact our team and they will be happy to help.
Our legitimate interests
Our purpose is to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ. To do that we promote our work, responsibly raise funds for our charitable aims, keep our supporters and the public informed of our progress, and operate effectively. We always pursue these interests respectfully, with our purpose and supporters at the heart of what we do. For example, we may:
- respond to requests for information;
- send you mail about activity we think may interest you, unless you have told us not to;
- fulfil gift requests, such as free book samples;
- show our posts and adverts on social media;
- analyze the information we hold so we understand our supporters and contact them about relevant activity;
- work with trusted suppliers who have specialist expertise;
- keep our records accurate, for example by updating an address when mail is returned.
You have the right to object to us using your data on the basis of our legitimate interests. If you would like us to stop, please contact our team.
Administrative messages
Some messages are not affected by your communication choices because we need to send them, for example confirming a newsletter subscription, confirming the details of a recurring gift, or sending you a donation receipt.
How we work with third parties
We never sell or swap your details with any other organization for their marketing. We sometimes work with third parties, for example:
- analytics tools that help us understand and improve how our website is used;
- payment providers, such as Donorbox, that process gifts securely and help detect fraud;
- email services, such as Mailchimp, that send our newsletters and devotionals;
- our partner churches and volunteers who verify and follow up testimonies and prayer requests;
- suppliers who carry out services for us under a contract that requires them to protect your data as carefully as we do;
- event organizers, where we need to pass on your details to secure your place (we will tell you when you register);
- social media platforms, so that updates about our work may appear in your newsfeed;
- authorities, where we are legally required to share information.
We only give these suppliers the data they need for their specific service, it is never shared for their own marketing, and they must delete or return it once their work is finished.
External websites
Our website contains links to and from other websites. These sites have their own privacy policies, and we do not accept any responsibility or liability for them. Please check their policies before you submit any personal data to them.
Where we have a legal requirement
We will share data where the law requires it, for example with tax authorities or law enforcement officials. If we were to merge with another charity or restructure, we may share your personal details with the other organizations involved for that purpose.
How long we keep your data
We keep your data for as long as you are actively supporting or engaging with us. After that we keep it for a set period, depending on what you gave us and why, and then remove your personal details so that any remaining records are anonymous.
In most cases we keep records of donations for seven years after your last gift, to meet our tax and audit obligations. Sensitive data collected for a specific event is deleted within a month after the event. You can ask us to delete your personal details sooner, and we will do so unless we must keep them to comply with a legal obligation, in which case we will explain why.
How we keep your information secure
We take the care of your data seriously and use organizational and technical security measures to protect it, including secure servers, encryption (SSL) and access controls so that only people who need your data can see it. Card payments are handled by our payment providers in line with payment card industry (PCI) security standards.
No transmission of information over the internet is completely secure. Although we will do our best to protect your personal data, we cannot guarantee the security of data sent to our site. If a data breach happens, we will act immediately and notify you and the relevant authorities where the law requires it.
International visitors
Our Testimony Inc. is based in the United States, and we serve people and partner churches in many countries. If you visit our site from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to, stored and processed in the United States and in the countries where our service providers and partner churches are located, where data protection laws may differ from those in your country. Where the law requires it, we use appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses. By using our site, you consent to this transfer.
If you apply to work or volunteer with us
We collect information from anyone who applies to work or volunteer with us, and use it only for recruitment and to manage your role. You have the same rights over this data as our supporters.
When you apply we may contact the referees you name to confirm the information you gave us, sharing your name and the role you applied for. Some roles also require a background check, and we will say so in the role description.
We keep application details for up to seven years so we can contact suitable applicants about other roles. Please let us know if you would like us to remove your details sooner. We keep anonymous statistics about applicants to improve how we recruit, but these cannot identify you.

We may change this policy from time to time, and you will always be able to see here when it was last updated. If we make significant changes, we may also announce them on our website or contact you directly. Please review this policy each time you give us personal data.
